Since our first event in 2019 we've been raising money for charity. We didn't want to just keep raising money for lots of different charities, we wanted a partner in our local area where we could see a difference being made. Here is a little insight into why we chose Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and we also spoke to some of the amazing people we work with there to see what they do and what it's like to work with us.
Firstly why did we choose CW Mind?
Fundraising is an important part of DRM supporting mental health. Until we are able to make a profit and fulfil our 25% promise, which depends on various factors and is a longer term strategy. Fundraising is easier for us at our stalls and events, allowing us to still make a difference. Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, which was founded in 1946. We know we are in safe hands, working with a reputable charity with an abundance of knowledge when it comes to mental health and has a track record of making improvements and changes in the space we have entered. For some people who have not heard of DRM, but see our association with Mind, it gives them confidence that they are dealing with a genuine business. It's great to get guidance and bounce ideas around with the employees at Mind, specifically those within the Coventry and Warwickshire branch, which is in our locality. Those are the reasons we chose CW Mind, not just for 1 year to raise money or for a one of, charity fundraiser, but as partners for the foreseeable future.
What was/is it like to work with DRM?
Working with DRM over the last few years has been fantastic. Bill and Erin are passionate about raising awareness of mental health and fundraising for Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.
DRM has helped raise over 6k for CW Mind and Mind, what kind of projects has that supported?
This is incredible and we are so grateful for DRM’s ongoing support. Within Coventry and Warwickshire Mind, the funds have helped to support children and young people within Coventry and Warwickshire with mental health support. Projects such as befriending and building young people’s confidence and specifically helping younger black men to increase resilience and help address some of the issues that affect young black men and their families.
When did you first join Mind, and why?
I joined Coventry and Warwickshire Mind in March 2021. I have a mental health condition and really understand why speaking out about mental health is so important. I also wanted to give back to the community.
What does your role involve?
I’m the Senior Fundraiser here at Coventry and Warwickshire Mind. My role is helping supporters to raise funds for us. My days can be quite varied. I provide materials for events, attend events, update the website, come up with new fundraising ideas and initiatives, liaise with corporate organisations and work with our Ambassadors. I’m here to help all supporters throughout their journey to feel valued and that they are making a difference. From a monthly donation or a gift in their will to running a marathon or a bake sale, we appreciate all fundraising efforts, no matter how big or small they may seem. I also line manage the Fundraisers and as a team, we know our supporters are vital. The funds raised ensure that we can be there for people in Coventry and Warwickshire – and that’s a very big deal!
What are your hopes for the future?
In the past, I have had discrimination regarding my mental health condition. I want to educate, help and to show people that having a mental health condition doesn’t stop you from fulfilling your dreams. As Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. I hope I inspire future generations to live a brave and fun-filled life.
